Interbit Data Introduces Document Manager, Electronic Medical Records Development Software That Helps Achieve Meaningful Use
Hospitals and Other Healthcare Organizations Can Now Assemble Electronic Health Data From Multiple Sources Into a Single Customized Patient Report, Saving Time and Ending Waste
Natick, MA – April 5, 2010 –Healthcare providers now have a solution that helps meet Meaningful Use requirements to provide patient-requested medical records by enabling the creation of a single document with data and records from multiple sources. With Document Manager from Interbit Data, hospital personnel can quickly and easily assemble numerous electronic patient files into one document and deliver it securely to patients and third parties, saving time and protecting patient confidentiality.
“One of the requirements outlined by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for establishing Meaningful Use is to provide patients and others with electronic medical records information on request. Document Manager is the only product that specifically addresses this and does so in an efficient and secure manner,” said Arthur Young, president of Interbit Data. “Healthcare organizations deal with an enormous quantity of patient data and can consume precious time gathering it from various departments for fulfilling requests for specific reports. Document Manager speeds the process of getting that information into the hands of those who need it to maintain the high quality delivery of patient care.”
Medical records, discharge staff and other hospital personnel no longer need to gather information separately from different departments and send it separately to recipients. Through its ability to streamline the assembly of customized patient reports, Document Manager simplifies the collection of data, saves time with creating and delivering reports, eliminates waste and other problems associated with printing documents, and provides greater control over the final document format. Users can manage how a document is assembled, determining format and layout and creating a cover page and table of contents, if necessary.
Document Manager operates as easily as a printer, assembling any files that can be printed to a LaserJet printer and sending the consolidated documents to any designated recipient. Reports and documents created with Document Manager may be distributed via email, fax or NetDelivery, Interbit Data’s report distribution software. They may also be written as a secure and protected encrypted PDF file to USB and/or CD-ROM storage.
All of Interbit Data’s products, which include solutions for information distribution, downtime protection and business continuance, and workforce scheduling and management, are being readied for certification as products for achieving Meaningful Use.

Saint Francis Medical Center Facilitates Secure HL7 Data Transfer Using Interbit Data’s NetDelivery
With the NetDelivery Integration Module, Saint Francis Transfers Lab Results From MEDITECH to Physicians’ Practices Via the HL7 Data Standard for Sharing and Retrieving Electronic Health Information
Natick, MA – January 25, 2011 – To enable smooth and secure interoperability of electronic health information via the HL7 data standard, Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE implemented the NetDelivery Integration Module from Interbit Data. The information distribution software captures lab results in MEDITECH and delivers them in the HL7 format to physicians’ practices’ electronic medical records (EMRs). Saint Francis Medical Center already uses NetDelivery to distribute all labs, radiology and other patient reports to departments across its facility.
“NetDelivery is a very flexible product that provides a solution for many data and report distribution needs,” said Steven Wegenast, Applications Analyst at Saint Francis Medical Center. “The NetDelivery Integration Module offers another effective way to deliver results and has proven to be a simpler and less costly HL7 interface.”
Saint Francis Medical Center has realized immediate benefits from the NetDelivery Integration Module, as it has with NetDelivery.
“NetDelivery parses reports and sends them to the printers at which they are needed, whereas when MEDITECH sends information out, it goes to only one printer,” explained Pamela Zitterkopf, Pathology Director at Saint Francis Medical Center. “There are time savings because NetDelivery automates the report distribution process, setting up reports to transmit to target recipients automatically. We save on paper as well because we’re not printing reports to see what they look like before sending them.”
With NetDelivery, Saint Francis Medical Center runs reports from MEDITECH on a daily basis and sends them to 91 recipients across 20 hospital printers. The recipients are created for each printer to ensure that reports are directed to the right printers.
Saint Francis Medical Center uses the NetDelivery Integration Module with one physician practice in particular, Grand Island Dermatology, and is preparing to start sending HL7 data to the other physician practices it partners with. Interbit Data implemented the Integration Module and had it delivering HL7 reports in a matter of weeks.
“The team at Interbit Data is very helpful and knowledgeable of MEDITECH,” added Zitterkopf. “They got us on the right track to implementing an uncomplicated HL7 interface.”

Interbit Data Moves Up Ranking on Annual Exclusive List of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies — the Inc. 5000
Healthcare IT Solutions Provider Increases Three-Year Sales Growth to Over 142%, Achieving No. 1902 on the 2010 Inc. 5000
Natick, MA – August 31, 2010 – Interbit Data, a leading provider of software and services for improving healthcare efficiency, today announced it has been named to Inc. Magazine’s exclusive list of the 5,000 fastest growing private companies in the United States for the second year in a row. The company ranked No. 1902 as a result of achieving over 142% growth from 2006 to 2009, a significant move up from its ranking of No. 2909 on the 2009 Inc. 5000 list. This growth places Interbit Data at No. 152 in the health industry ranking and No. 64 among Boston, MA area companies.
“Our continued growth during this economy is not only proof of our staying power, it is confirmation of the significant value our software delivers in terms of time and cost savings,” said Arthur Young, president of Interbit Data. “We are dedicated to helping healthcare providers improve the level of care by addressing their challenges with streamlining operations, distributing patient data and reports, and ensuring access to critical patient records during system downtimes.”
Since 1997, Interbit Data has sold its software solutions for improving operational efficiency to over 650 healthcare providers and organizations in the U.S., Canada and U.K. The company offers three types of solutions that contribute to increased productivity, reduced costs, and, ultimately, better and more consistent patient care:
- Information distribution – automates the secure transfer of information over the Internet in multiple formats (print, fax, email or file), easily integrating it into physician practices’ electronic medical records (EMRs) using the industry standard HL7 format.
- Business continuance – ensures up-to-date patient data is readily available in the event of a network or system outage.
- Scheduling and workforce automation – automates manual scheduling, enabling organizations to easily implement a complex schedule and efficiently manage staff.
The 2010 Inc. 5000 serves as a unique illustration of the profound changes taking place in the U.S. economy. Despite the fact that most of this year’s measuring period of 2006-2009 took place during the latest recession, aggregate revenue among the companies on the list actually increased to $321.6 billion, up more than 50 percent from last year. The effects of the recession are seen, however, in the median three-year growth rate, which dropped to 96 percent from last year’s 126 percent.
This year’s Inc. 5000 employ a record 1.4 million people, up from one million on last year’s list. The Health sector is the top employer with 287,726 jobs, followed by Business Products & Services (230,066), Food & Beverage (108,344), Human Resources (107,924), and Retail (96,858).
The top five industries by total revenue are Business Products & Services ($84.7 billion), Health ($48.3 billion), Consumer Products & Services ($26.4 billion), Retail ($22.3 billion), and Government Services ($15.1 billion).
Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found on www.inc.com/5000.
Inc. 5000 Methodology
The 2010 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2006 to 2009. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by June 30, 2006. Additionally, they had to be based in the United States, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2009. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2006 is $80,000; the minimum for 2009 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. The top 10 percent of companies on the list constitute the Inc. 500, now in its 29th year.

Natick, MA – August 18, 2010 – To provide healthcare IT professionals with continuing education, purchase planning assistance and peer networking around issues facing hospitals and healthcare systems, Interbit Data has partnered with Iatric Systems, Inc. and Array Software to form the Healthcare IT Solutions Exchange (HITSE). HITSE will host an ongoing series of healthcare IT conferences starting this fall with HITSE New England 2010, to be held October 26 and 27 at the Doubletree Hotel, Westborough, MA.
“The primary intention of HITSE is to fill a void left by other healthcare IT conferences and user associations,” states Arthur Young, president of Interbit Data. ”Other conferences have missed opportunities to extend the educational process on certain topics and allow vendors to convey beneficial, user-valued product solutions information outside of the exhibit area, which is often disregarded by attendees. HITSE was designed to provide a setting in which users and vendors can communicate and collaborate in order to develop and implement solutions that improve healthcare.”
HITSE’s initial healthcare IT conferences will include educational tracks on Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), MEDITECH 6.0, Meaningful Use and Revenue Cycle Improvement, with sessions on industry updates, technology and compliance, and panel discussions featuring industry experts. Vendor sessions will offer case studies, product demonstrations and user group discussions. Hancock Regional Hospital Protects Access to Critical, Up-to-Date Patient Data During Downtime Using Interbit Data’s NetSafe
NetSafe Provides Local Access to the Latest Electronic Records in the Event of System or Network Downtimes, Enabling the Hospital to Provide Uninterrupted Patient Care
Natick, MA – July 28, 2010 – To ensure downtime access to current patient data after moving to electronic medical records (EMRs) and electronic medication administration records (eMARs), Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, IN implemented NetSafe, Interbit Data’s downtime protection and business continuance solution. NetSafe downloads up-to-the-minute patient data and records from the hospital’s MEDITECH Healthcare Information System (HCIS) and provides access to it from local machines, allowing clinicians to obtain the information they need where they need it whenever the system or network goes down. With NetSafe, critical patient data is always available and the hospital assures patient safety and the delivery of uninterrupted care.
“NetSafe is a terrific safety net if the HCIS, a server or the network goes down,” states Doug Hogue, information analyst at Hancock Regional Hospital. “It’s one of those tools we hope to never have to use, but if and when we do need to rely on it, we have complete trust it will perform superbly. With NetSafe, we have peace of mind knowing that the latest eMARs and other important patient information are in a location that we can access when that information is needed.”
A one-minute video on the downtime protection and business continuance benefits of NetSafe is available at: http://interbitdata.com/business-continuance/netsafe/
Using NetSafe, Hancock Regional Hospital downloads updates of the eMARs every hour to ensure that clinicians can obtain the most up-to-date medication information on their patients whenever the system is unavailable. Electronic physician orders are updated twice per day and in PDF format, allowing staffers at registration desks to bring up and view the orders easily. Patient profiles, surgery schedules and out-patient schedules are also downloaded and updated. Physicians’ practices use NetSafe as well to back up their schedules.
Since Hancock Regional Hospital started using NetSafe in 2007, it has had four planned downtimes due to MEDITECH updates. It has had no unplanned downtimes as yet.
“If an unplanned downtime were to happen, we’re confident that we’re ready,” confirms Hogue. “NetSafe has performed flawlessly during the downtimes Hancock Regional Hospital has experienced so far, providing clinicians with whatever information they needed during those times.”
Over the three-plus years of using NetSafe, Hancock Regional Hospital’s experience with it has been nothing but positive.
“I love it, it’s a great product,” affirms Hogue. “NetSafe is easy to use, and other than normal server maintenance, I don’t need to do anything to it.”
More information on NetSafe can be obtained at the Interbit Data website.

St. Anthony Regional Hospital Saves Time and Boosts Speed Distributing Critical Patient Data with Interbit Data’s NetDelivery
Patient Reports Are Distributed to Multiple Recipients and Locations Automatically, Eliminating Manual Report Distribution Processes That Waste Time and Paper and Delay Transmission of Patient Data to Clinicians Who Need It
Natick, MA – May 19, 2010 – Automating report distribution from the healthcare information system (HCIS) to doctors in multiple locations, Interbit Data’s NetDelivery and the NetDelivery Distribution Wizard have helped St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, IA with getting critical patient data to those who need it within minutes rather than hours. The hospital once used a totally manual report distribution process that involved printing patient reports on paper and sending them by mail or courier to the recipient. Since moving to NetDelivery, the hospital’s staff not only saves time and stops performing this menial daily task; it also eliminates paper waste and expedites delivery of patient care.
“NetDelivery has proven to be an incredible time-saver for report distribution, specifically for the lab but also for pathology, radiology and the medical records department,” stated Dr. Jedd Hagen, a pathologist at St. Anthony Regional Hospital. “The pathology department alone decreased the amount of patient reports it has to print and distribute by 80%; those reports are now sent automatically with NetDelivery.”
St. Anthony Regional Hospital’s pathology department sends patient reports to approximately 50 doctors at 15 different clinics, while its laboratory sends patient reports to this same group plus nursing homes and other doctors outside the hospital — between 80 to 100 doctors altogether. The hospital also sends the doctors any dictation it does for patient history and physicals, operative reports and emergency room visits.
Prior to implementing NetDelivery, St. Anthony Regional Hospital’s lab staff had to spend two hours per day printing, folding, sorting and packaging about 100 lab reports for delivery to different doctors. The pathology department consumed one hour per day to distribute 30-40 reports. That is time those departments now have each day to attend to more important issues. Because of this freed-up time, the hospital was able to absorb the loss of a staff member and not add new personnel, yet still accomplish everything they need to do.
With NetDelivery, St. Anthony Regional Hospital can send patient reports easily to multiple locations at one time, pre-defining by recipient and location how each report is sent.
Patient reports going to a particular doctor are sent automatically — there is no need to tell NetDelivery what to do as the software knows where a report needs to be sent and in what format the recipient prefers to retrieve it.
“NetDelivery is straight-forward, Windows-based and very easy to use,” affirmed Hagen. “NetDelivery has many features and offers several delivery methods, allowing us to do more than just faxing.”
NetDelivery offers 14 report distribution methods, including fax, email, file, or directly to printer, and report distribution in PRN, TIF, TXT or PDF file formats. Remote locations can retrieve the data via the Internet on demand, on schedule or in real-time. All Internet connections are validated and all data is encrypted using 128-bit encryption algorithms, ensuring and improving compliance with HIPAA.
The NetDelivery Distribution Wizard efficiently collates patient reports generated by the HCIS and directs them to the proper recipients based on user-defined rules using data extracted from the reports. Collating reports that are printed in batches saves time spent determining which reports go to each persons. By extracting the recipients and destinations from the reports, organizations increase the accuracy of who receives the report, improve security by not sending reports to the wrong persons, and save staff time and effort ensuring reports were received on time by the right person.
